Developing Puzzle Based Case Study to Improve Cognitive Learning Outcomes of High School Students
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to produce Puzzle Based Case Study media that is valid, practical, and effective to improve students' cognitive learning outcomes on the topic of the human respiratory system. Puzzle Based Case Study is a learning media modified from the Puzzle game by integrating case study questions related to the topic of the respiratory system. This research uses the ADDIE development model which has five stages, namely Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. The validity of the media was obtained from the results of three validation stages, namely media expert validation, material expert validation, and educational practitioner validation. The practicality of the media is obtained from student and teacher response questionnaires. The effectiveness of the media to improve cognitive learning outcomes was measured using pretest and posttest then continued with n-gain analysis. The results of material validation reached 100%, media validation reached 100%, and validation of educational practitioners reached 98.6%. The practicality of the media based on student and teacher response questionnaires resulted in a score of 95.6% (practical). The effectiveness of the media in improving cognitive learning outcomes resulted in an N-Gain score of 0.62 (medium criteria) and an effectiveness criterion of 62 (moderately effective). These results indicate that the Puzzle Based Case Study is valid, practical, and effective to improve and students' cognitive learning outcomes on the topic of the human respiratory system.
