1. OPEN ACCESS PRINCIPLES AND OBJECTIVES

JOLLT adopts an open-access publishing model based on the principle that scholarly research should be accessible to researchers, educators, students, policymakers, practitioners, and the wider public without unnecessary financial or technological restrictions.

Open access is an essential component of the journal's commitment to facilitating the dissemination and exchange of research findings in language studies, linguistics, applied linguistics, language teaching and learning, and related interdisciplinary fields.

1.1. Objectives of Open Access

The journal's open-access policy is intended to support the following objectives:

  1. Accessibility: Provide immediate and free access to published scholarly articles regardless of the reader's institutional affiliation or geographical location.
  2. Knowledge Dissemination: Support the broad distribution of research findings to academic and non-academic audiences.
  3. Scholarly Collaboration: Encourage national and international research communication, knowledge exchange, and academic cooperation.
  4. Research Visibility: Improve the discoverability and accessibility of scholarly publications through indexing, metadata distribution, and responsible sharing.
  5. Educational Development: Support access to research evidence that may inform language teaching, learning, curriculum development, assessment, and educational policy.
  6. Responsible Reuse: Enable legitimate sharing and adaptation of scholarly material in accordance with open licensing requirements.
  7. Scholarly Attribution: Protect the recognition of authors' intellectual contributions through appropriate citation and licensing practices.
  8. Public Engagement: Support access to scholarly knowledge beyond institutions with subscription-based information resources.

1.2. Scope of the Policy

This policy applies to scholarly articles published by JOLLT under its stated open-access arrangements.

Publication files, supplementary materials, research data, and third-party content may be subject to separately identified conditions where applicable.

Authors and readers are encouraged to consult the licensing information associated with individual publications when determining the rights applicable to particular materials.

1.3. Open Access and Editorial Quality

Open access concerns the availability and lawful reuse of published content. It does not eliminate the requirements for independent peer review, research integrity, editorial assessment, or responsible scholarly reporting.

All submitted manuscripts remain subject to the journal's editorial procedures and publication ethics requirements.

Editorial decisions must be based on scholarly merit, originality, methodological quality, and ethical compliance rather than authors' financial circumstances or readers' ability to pay.

2. IMMEDIATE AND FREE ACCESS TO PUBLISHED CONTENT

JOLLT provides immediate online access to published scholarly articles through its official website.

Readers may access article abstracts, bibliographic information, and available full-text publication files without paying subscription or pay-per-view charges.

NO ACCESS FEES OR EMBARGOES

JOLLT does not impose subscription charges, pay-per-view fees, or journal-controlled embargo periods on published scholarly articles.

Published articles are made freely accessible through the journal website from the time of publication.

2.1. Immediate Open Access

Articles become publicly accessible through the official journal website when they are published.

The journal does not require readers to wait for an embargo period before accessing published research articles and review articles.

Immediate access supports the timely dissemination of research findings and facilitates their use in scholarly discussion, teaching, learning, and further research.

2.2. No Subscription or Paywall

Readers and their institutions are not required to purchase subscriptions or pay access fees to read and download published scholarly articles.

JOLLT does not operate a pay-per-view arrangement for online access to its published research articles.

Article processing charges, where applicable to authors, are distinct from access charges and do not create a payment obligation for readers.

2.3. Reader Registration

Registration or login is not required to access the publicly available full-text versions of published articles.

Registration may be required for other journal services, such as manuscript submission, editorial participation, or account-based notifications.

Such registration requirements do not restrict the public's right to read published scholarly content.

2.4. Worldwide Availability

Published articles are made accessible through the journal's electronic publishing platform to readers in Indonesia and internationally.

JOLLT aims to provide access to its scholarly publications regardless of institutional affiliation, professional position, nationality, or geographical location.

Access remains subject to ordinary technical availability and lawful restrictions that may apply to particular circumstances or materials.

3. READER RIGHTS AND PERMITTED USES

JOLLT supports the responsible use and dissemination of published scholarly content.

Readers may access and reuse articles in accordance with the applicable Creative Commons license and any separately identified third-party rights.

3.1. Reading, Downloading, and Distribution

Readers are permitted to:

  • Access and read published scholarly articles online.
  • Download available full-text article files.
  • Print copies for lawful scholarly, educational, personal, or other purposes.
  • Copy and redistribute licensed material in any medium or format.
  • Share links to published articles with researchers, students, colleagues, and other audiences.
  • Use published material in teaching, learning, research, and academic communication.
  • Search and cite published article content.

These permissions are subject to the applicable article license, including attribution requirements and the conditions governing shared adaptations.

3.2. Adaptation, Translation, and Reuse

Under CC BY-SA 4.0, users may adapt, translate, remix, transform, and build upon licensed material for lawful purposes.

Users who distribute adapted material must provide appropriate attribution, indicate modifications, and comply with the license's ShareAlike provisions.

Adaptations must not be represented as unchanged reproductions of the original work or as officially endorsed by the original authors or publisher unless such endorsement has been authorized.

3.3. Commercial and Non-Commercial Uses

The CC BY-SA 4.0 license permits both commercial and non-commercial use of licensed content.

Commercial use does not remove the requirements for attribution, appropriate identification of changes, or licensing of distributed adaptations under the same or an approved compatible license.

JOLLT does not impose additional non-commercial restrictions on content licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.

3.4. Responsible Scholarly Reuse

Open-access permissions do not eliminate the responsibility to acknowledge intellectual contributions accurately.

Researchers, educators, and other users must distinguish their own work from previously published ideas, evidence, analyses, and materials.

Appropriate scholarly citation should be provided when JOLLT publications are used as evidence, discussed, or incorporated into new academic work.

Open access and Creative Commons licensing do not permit plagiarism, misrepresentation of authorship, data falsification, or other academic misconduct.

Authors publishing in JOLLT retain copyright in their original scholarly works and grant the journal the non-exclusive right of first publication.

Published articles are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), unless particular materials are explicitly identified as subject to different rights.

4.1. Copyright Ownership

Copyright in original scholarly contributions remains with the author or authors, subject to applicable law and any separately disclosed valid ownership arrangements.

Publication in JOLLT does not require the transfer of exclusive copyright ownership to the publisher.

Authors grant the journal the necessary non-exclusive publishing rights to publish and disseminate the accepted scholarly work.

4.2. Official Creative Commons License

License: Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International.

Abbreviation: CC BY-SA 4.0.

Official License URL: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/.

Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License

4.3. License Conditions

The following conditions apply to reuse of material licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.

License Condition Requirement
Attribution Provide appropriate credit, retain applicable notices, include a link to the license, and indicate modifications when relevant.
ShareAlike When distributing adapted material, use the same license or an approved compatible license as required by CC BY-SA 4.0.
No Additional Restrictions Do not impose legal conditions or technological measures that prevent others from exercising the permissions granted by the license.
Respect for Other Rights Comply with rights and legal obligations not necessarily covered by the license, including applicable privacy, moral rights, and separately licensed third-party content.

4.4. Attribution Requirements

Appropriate attribution generally identifies the original author or authors, relevant source information, copyright and license notices where provided, and the applicable Creative Commons license.

Users must indicate modifications when adapting the original material.

Attribution must not suggest that the original authors or publisher endorse the reuse or adaptation unless such endorsement has been expressly authorized.

4.5. ShareAlike Requirements

When licensed material is adapted and the resulting adaptation is distributed, the adaptation must comply with the ShareAlike provisions of CC BY-SA 4.0.

The ShareAlike condition does not automatically require independent publications that merely cite or refer to a JOLLT article to adopt the same license.

Further information is available through the journal's Copyright and Licensing Policy.

5. AUTHOR RIGHTS, SHARING, AND SELF-ARCHIVING

JOLLT supports authors' rights to disseminate their scholarly work responsibly and encourages appropriate sharing through institutional repositories, academic websites, and other scholarly communication platforms.

Authors retain copyright in their original works and may exercise their rights in accordance with the journal's non-exclusive publishing arrangement and the applicable article license.

5.1. Repository Deposit

Authors may deposit and share their published articles through institutional or disciplinary repositories without an embargo imposed by JOLLT.

Repositories should identify the original publication and provide an appropriate citation and link to the official journal article.

Deposited materials remain subject to the applicable copyright, license, confidentiality, and third-party rights.

5.2. Sharing the Published Version

Authors may share the official published version of their articles in accordance with the applicable Creative Commons license.

When distributing published versions, authors are encouraged to provide the article's bibliographic information, including its title, publication year, journal name, volume, issue, and DOI or official publication URL where available.

5.3. Preprints and Earlier Manuscript Versions

Authors may disseminate earlier manuscript versions, including preprints, where permitted by applicable legal, institutional, ethical, and publication requirements.

Relevant prior dissemination must be disclosed to the editorial office when necessary to evaluate originality or potential overlap.

After publication, authors are encouraged to update relevant repository and preprint records with a citation and link to the official JOLLT article.

5.4. Subsequent Scholarly Distribution

Authors may enter into additional non-exclusive arrangements for distributing their published work when consistent with previously granted rights and the applicable open-access license.

Such activities may include repository deposit, scholarly compilations, educational resources, and other legitimate forms of academic dissemination.

6. READER ACCESS AND ARTICLE PROCESSING CHARGES

JOLLT distinguishes between free access for readers and the publication charges that may apply to authors.

The journal's open-access model does not require readers or their institutions to pay for online access to published scholarly articles.

6.1. Free Access for Readers

Readers may access, read, and download the journal's published scholarly articles without subscription or pay-per-view charges.

Public access to published articles does not depend on whether an individual reader has an institutional subscription or journal user account.

6.2. Article Processing Charges

JOLLT maintains a separately published Article Processing Charge (APC) policy that explains the charges applicable to authors and any available exemptions.

Authors must consult the journal's official Author Fees page for current charge amounts, payment conditions, eligibility for exemptions, and related procedures.

Official Author Fees: Article Processing Charges and Fee Information.

6.3. Editorial Independence from Publication Charges

Payment arrangements, authors' financial circumstances, and eligibility for fee exemptions must not influence editorial decisions.

All manuscripts remain subject to the journal's scholarly, methodological, ethical, and peer review requirements.

Payment of an APC does not guarantee manuscript acceptance or publication.

6.4. Optional Physical Copies

Where printed copies or other optional physical publication services are offered, associated charges are separate from free online access to the published scholarly content.

Any such charges and applicable conditions must be communicated clearly before the relevant service is requested.

7. THIRD-PARTY CONTENT AND RESEARCH MATERIALS

Some JOLLT articles may contain materials originating from third parties, including figures, photographs, tables, assessment instruments, illustrations, datasets, translations, or other copyrighted content.

The presence of third-party materials within an open-access article does not automatically mean that all such materials are available under the article's Creative Commons license.

7.1. Third-Party Copyright

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce or adapt third-party copyrighted materials when required.

Where particular materials are excluded from the article's CC BY-SA 4.0 license, the applicable rights and reuse restrictions must be identified clearly.

Readers seeking to reuse separately licensed materials must comply with the relevant terms or obtain additional permission where legally necessary.

7.2. Research Data and Supplementary Materials

Research datasets, interview materials, recordings, instruments, and supplementary files may be subject to separate access, licensing, confidentiality, or repository conditions.

Restrictions may arise from participant consent, institutional agreements, copyright, privacy requirements, or other legitimate considerations.

The open-access license applied to an article does not automatically override separately applicable rights concerning research data or third-party materials.

7.3. Confidential and Sensitive Information

Open access must not compromise research participant confidentiality or privacy.

Personally identifiable information, confidential research materials, and sensitive data may not be disclosed without an appropriate ethical and legal basis.

Authors remain responsible for ensuring that published and supplementary materials comply with applicable confidentiality, consent, and data protection requirements.

8. SCHOLARLY DISCOVERABILITY, CITATION, AND RESPONSIBLE SHARING

JOLLT recognizes that open access can support the discoverability, visibility, and wider use of scholarly research.

The journal disseminates published content through its official website and provides article-level bibliographic information to support scholarly identification and citation.

8.1. Article Identification and Metadata

Published articles are associated with bibliographic information such as article titles, author names, publication years, volume and issue numbers, abstracts, and other metadata where available.

Accurate publication metadata help researchers identify, retrieve, reference, and evaluate scholarly contributions.

8.2. Citation and Attribution

Readers and researchers are expected to acknowledge the original authors and sources when using scholarly findings, ideas, data, or published materials.

Appropriate citation is necessary even when the source material is freely accessible under an open license.

Authors and users should use the official article citation and DOI where available to identify the published version accurately.

8.3. Academic and Educational Reuse

JOLLT encourages lawful and responsible use of published research in teaching, professional development, curriculum design, academic presentations, research synthesis, and other scholarly activities.

Reuse must comply with the applicable Creative Commons license, including attribution and ShareAlike requirements where relevant.

8.4. Citation Integrity

Open access must not be used as justification for plagiarism, excessive or irrelevant citation, misrepresentation of scholarly authorship, or misleading presentation of research findings.

Readers, authors, and other users are expected to follow responsible citation and scholarly attribution practices.

9. LONG-TERM ACCESS AND DIGITAL PRESERVATION

JOLLT recognizes the importance of maintaining the continuity, integrity, and accessibility of published scholarly records.

The journal maintains an online archive of published volumes and issues through its official publishing platform.

Long-term preservation requires appropriate technical arrangements beyond the public availability of article files on the journal's current website.

9.1. Online Publication Archive

JOLLT provides access to current and previously published issues through the journal's official publication archive.

Readers may use the following links to access published scholarly content:

9.2. Digital Preservation Arrangements

The journal's digital preservation framework addresses the retention of published article files, bibliographic records, and other essential publication materials.

Preservation arrangements may involve institutional backup procedures and suitable external preservation services when configured, operational, and independently verifiable.

Participation in external preservation services must not be claimed solely on the basis of an installed plugin or available technical gateway.

9.3. Continuity of Scholarly Access

When changes to the journal's publishing platform, hosting arrangements, or institutional administration occur, the publisher and authorized technical personnel should take appropriate measures to protect existing publication records and maintain access to published scholarly content.

Relevant preservation procedures are described in the journal's Electronic Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy.
