Authors who publish their scholarly works in JOLLT Journal of Languages and Language Teaching retain copyright in their original contributions.

Copyright ownership remains with the author or authors unless a different ownership arrangement is required by applicable law or a valid agreement that has been disclosed and approved before publication.

Publication in JOLLT does not require authors to transfer exclusive ownership of their copyright to the journal or publisher.

Authors retain the legal rights associated with their original scholarly works, subject to the non-exclusive publishing permissions granted to JOLLT and the open-access license applied to the published article.

1.1. Authors' Copyright Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for ensuring that they hold the necessary rights to submit and publish their manuscripts.

Authors must:

  1. Ensure that their manuscripts represent original scholarly contributions and do not unlawfully reproduce copyrighted materials.
  2. Obtain appropriate permissions for third-party materials when permission is legally required.
  3. Provide accurate acknowledgment and attribution for copyrighted or previously published materials.
  4. Confirm that all coauthors have approved the manuscript and the applicable publishing arrangements.
  5. Disclose any contractual, institutional, or other restrictions that could affect their authority to grant publication rights.
  6. Ensure that publication and subsequent reuse do not violate the rights of other individuals, institutions, or copyright holders.

1.2. Copyright Notice

JOLLT applies the following general copyright notice to articles published under this policy:

Copyright © the Author(s). Authors retain copyright and grant JOLLT Journal of Languages and Language Teaching the right of first publication. The published work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), unless otherwise indicated for specific third-party materials.

The specific copyright year and author information should correspond to the relevant article's publication record.

2. PUBLISHING RIGHTS AND NON-EXCLUSIVE AGREEMENT

Upon acceptance of a manuscript for publication, the author or authors grant JOLLT a non-exclusive right of first publication.

This arrangement permits the journal to publish, reproduce, distribute, communicate, index, and maintain the scholarly work as part of its official publication record, consistent with the journal's open-access policies and the applicable Creative Commons license.

The publishing arrangement does not extinguish the authors' copyright ownership or prevent authors from exercising rights that remain available under the publishing agreement and the applicable license.

2.1. Right of First Publication

JOLLT receives permission to publish the accepted manuscript as the journal's official scholarly publication.

The publication record identifies the article's authorship, journal title, publication year, volume, issue, and other relevant bibliographic information.

Authors must ensure that the submitted manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal and does not constitute unauthorized duplicate publication.

2.2. Non-Exclusive Publishing Permission

The publication agreement is non-exclusive. Authors retain the ability to distribute, archive, and reuse their work in accordance with the applicable copyright and licensing arrangements.

JOLLT does not claim exclusive ownership of the manuscript solely by accepting or publishing it.

2.3. Journal Distribution and Indexing

JOLLT may make published articles available through its official website, publication archive, indexing services, metadata distribution systems, and appropriate scholarly preservation arrangements.

Such activities must respect the authors' retained copyright, the applicable article license, and any separately identified third-party rights.

3. AUTHOR RIGHTS AND SELF-ARCHIVING

JOLLT supports responsible author self-archiving and the wider dissemination of scholarly publications.

Authors may share and deposit their articles in institutional repositories, personal academic websites, and other appropriate scholarly platforms, provided that the applicable copyright and license conditions are respected.

3.1. Author Self-Archiving

Authors are permitted and encouraged to make their scholarly work accessible through appropriate online platforms.

Authors may deposit the published version of their articles in institutional or disciplinary repositories under the applicable CC BY-SA 4.0 license, without an embargo imposed by JOLLT.

The deposited version should clearly identify the original publication in JOLLT and provide an appropriate citation and link to the official journal publication record.

3.2. Preprints and Earlier Manuscript Versions

Authors may share earlier manuscript versions, including preprints, subject to applicable ethical, legal, institutional, and publication requirements.

Relevant prior dissemination must be disclosed during submission when necessary to evaluate the manuscript's originality and publication status.

Once the article is published, authors are encouraged to update relevant preprint or repository records with a citation and link to the official version published in JOLLT.

3.3. Subsequent Scholarly Distribution

Authors may enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of their published works, provided that these arrangements are consistent with previously granted rights and the applicable Creative Commons license.

Such arrangements may include repository deposit, inclusion in scholarly compilations, academic teaching materials, or other legitimate dissemination activities.

Subsequent distribution should appropriately acknowledge the original publication in JOLLT.

3.4. Attribution to the Original Publication

When sharing a published article, authors should provide sufficient bibliographic information to identify its original publication.

Relevant information includes the article title, author names, publication year, journal title, volume, issue, and DOI or official article URL, where available.

4. CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSING POLICY

JOLLT publishes articles under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).

This license provides the public with permission to access, share, reproduce, distribute, and adapt licensed scholarly content for lawful purposes, including commercial purposes, provided that the conditions of the license are satisfied.

The license is designed to support the dissemination and reuse of scholarly knowledge while preserving the attribution rights of authors and requiring compatible open licensing of shared adaptations.

4.1. Official License Identification

License Name: Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International

License Abbreviation: CC BY-SA 4.0

License URL: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/

Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License

4.2. Permissions Granted Under CC BY-SA 4.0

Subject to the applicable license conditions, users are permitted to undertake the following activities.

Permitted Activity Description
Read and Access Access and read licensed articles without a subscription or access fee.
Share Copy and redistribute licensed material in any medium or format.
Reproduce Reproduce licensed scholarly content subject to the applicable license conditions.
Adapt Remix, transform, translate, or build upon licensed material.
Educational Use Use licensed material in educational and scholarly activities.
Commercial Use Use licensed material for commercial purposes when the license requirements are satisfied.

4.3. Attribution Requirement

Users who share licensed material must provide appropriate attribution to the original author or authors.

Attribution should include the relevant creator information, source, copyright and license notices where supplied, a link to the applicable license, and an indication of modifications when the material has been changed.

Attribution must not imply that the original authors or publisher endorse the reuse or adaptation unless such endorsement has been explicitly authorized.

4.4. ShareAlike Requirement

When users adapt, translate, transform, or build upon licensed material and distribute the resulting adaptation, they must apply the same license or an approved compatible license as required by CC BY-SA 4.0.

The ShareAlike requirement applies to the distribution of adapted material. It does not require users to apply CC BY-SA 4.0 to every independent work in which the original article is merely cited or discussed.

4.5. No Additional Restrictions

Users must not impose legal terms or technological measures that prevent others from exercising the permissions granted by the license.

Reuse remains subject to applicable laws and rights not necessarily covered by the Creative Commons license, including privacy, moral rights, and rights associated with third-party content.

5. CONDITIONS FOR REUSE, DISTRIBUTION, AND ATTRIBUTION

JOLLT encourages responsible reuse of scholarly publications for research, teaching, scholarly communication, knowledge dissemination, and other lawful purposes.

Users must comply with the applicable license terms when reproducing, sharing, distributing, translating, or adapting published content.

5.1. Attribution to Authors and Journal

Appropriate attribution should identify the original authors, the article title, the initial publication in JOLLT, and the relevant publication link when reasonably practicable.

The required license information and an indication of changes must also be supplied when applicable.

5.2. Adaptation and Translation

Translations, adaptations, and other transformed versions of licensed material are permitted under CC BY-SA 4.0.

Users must identify modifications and comply with the attribution and ShareAlike requirements when distributing adapted material.

Adaptations must not be represented as the original authors' unchanged work or as having been officially approved by JOLLT unless such approval has been granted.

5.3. Commercial Reuse

The CC BY-SA 4.0 license permits commercial reuse of licensed content, provided that all applicable conditions are satisfied.

Commercial use does not eliminate the requirements for attribution, indication of changes, and ShareAlike licensing of distributed adaptations.

5.4. Citation and Academic Integrity

Creative Commons licensing does not replace normal scholarly citation obligations.

Users of JOLLT publications must distinguish between their own scholarly contributions and previously published ideas, evidence, findings, or other materials.

When JOLLT publications are cited or discussed in academic work, citations must follow the applicable scholarly referencing conventions.

5.5. Example of Appropriate Attribution

An appropriate attribution statement for reused or adapted material may be structured as follows:

Adapted from "[Article Title]" by [Author Name(s)], published in JOLLT Journal of Languages and Language Teaching, [Year], [DOI or Article URL]. Licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. Changes were made to the original material.

The attribution statement should be adjusted to accurately describe the actual source and nature of reuse.

6. THIRD-PARTY MATERIALS AND COPYRIGHT PERMISSIONS

Authors are responsible for identifying and appropriately acknowledging third-party materials included in their manuscripts.

Such materials may include figures, photographs, tables, assessment instruments, illustrations, images, extensive textual excerpts, translations, or other copyrighted materials originating from external sources.

6.1. Permission Requirements

When permission is required, authors must obtain the necessary authorization from the relevant copyright holder before publication.

Authors must provide accurate acknowledgments and clearly identify any restrictions on the reuse of third-party materials.

6.2. Separately Licensed Materials

Third-party content may be subject to copyright or licensing arrangements that differ from the CC BY-SA 4.0 license applied to the original article.

Where a table, figure, image, dataset, or other material is excluded from the article's Creative Commons license, the applicable rights and restrictions must be clearly identified.

Readers who wish to reuse such materials must comply with the relevant licensing terms or obtain additional permission when required.

6.3. Research Data and Supplementary Materials

Research data and supplementary materials may be subject to separate legal, ethical, privacy, confidentiality, or repository-specific conditions.

The CC BY-SA 4.0 license applied to an article must not be interpreted as automatically overriding rights or restrictions associated with independently licensed datasets or third-party materials.

Authors are responsible for accurately identifying the availability, ownership, and permitted reuse of such materials where relevant.

7. LICENSE TRANSPARENCY AND PUBLICATION RECORDS

JOLLT is committed to providing clear and consistent information about the copyright status and licensing conditions of its scholarly publications.

Copyright and licensing information should be presented consistently across the journal website, manuscript submission system, published articles, and other relevant publication records.

7.1. Article-Level License Information

The copyright holder and applicable license should be identifiable through the article's publication record and available published files.

Where feasible, licensing information should also be included in appropriate article metadata to support indexing, scholarly discovery, and responsible reuse.

7.2. Previously Published Articles

The rights and licensing conditions applicable to an article are determined by the valid arrangements governing that publication.

Changes to the journal's licensing policy should not be represented as retroactively modifying the rights associated with previously published articles without the required authorization.

7.3. Corrections and Publication Integrity

Copyright and licensing permissions do not permit plagiarism, misrepresentation of authorship, data fabrication, or other forms of publication misconduct.

Concerns about research integrity, improper attribution, or unauthorized reproduction are handled under the journal's publication ethics procedures.

Information concerning corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions is available through the journal's Publication Ethics and Editorial Policies.

The copyright and licensing arrangements described in this policy should be read in conjunction with other relevant JOLLT policies.
