The purpose of JOLLT's digital preservation policy is to establish a framework for protecting published research content and associated publication records against loss, corruption, technological obsolescence, or interruption of access.
Digital preservation is intended to support the following objectives:
This policy applies primarily to the journal's published scholarly content. Confidential submission files, unpublished manuscripts, reviewer reports, and editorial correspondence are managed separately under applicable editorial confidentiality, records management, and data protection requirements.
JOLLT publishes and maintains its scholarly content through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. The journal's primary electronic archive provides publicly accessible records of published volumes, issues, articles, and associated publication information.
The journal's publication archive supports scholarly access and bibliographic discovery by organizing published content according to its volume and issue structure.
Published journal issues and articles are made available through the official JOLLT website. The archive provides a record of the journal's scholarly publications and supports access to previously published research.
The primary archive contains publication information such as article titles, author names, institutional affiliations where recorded, abstracts, keywords, publication dates, volume and issue numbers, and available article files.
Bibliographic metadata constitute an important component of digital preservation. Accurate metadata enable the identification, indexing, citation, discovery, and retrieval of scholarly articles even when changes occur in a journal's website or publishing infrastructure.
The journal's editorial and publishing personnel are responsible for maintaining accurate publication metadata and addressing identified errors through the appropriate editorial procedures.

Distributed digital preservation provides an additional mechanism for protecting scholarly publications beyond the journal's primary website and local publishing infrastructure.
JOLLT recognizes the relevance of LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and compatible digital preservation arrangements in supporting the long-term retention and recoverability of scholarly content.
LOCKSS is a distributed digital preservation approach that supports the retention of multiple copies of digital scholarly materials across participating preservation systems.
The purpose of distributed preservation is to reduce dependence on a single website, server, or institutional storage location and to support the continued availability of scholarly materials under qualifying circumstances.
JOLLT's OJS platform includes a technical gateway address intended for use with LOCKSS-compatible archiving mechanisms. The gateway provides a potential technical interface for preservation arrangements when the necessary configuration and participation requirements are satisfied.
LOCKSS Gateway: JOLLT LOCKSS Gateway.
The existence of this gateway does not independently confirm that content has been deposited in, received by, or preserved through an external archival network. Such participation requires separate technical verification.
The Public Knowledge Project Preservation Network (PKP PN) provides a digital preservation mechanism designed for eligible journals using Open Journal Systems.
PKP PN uses distributed preservation technology based on the LOCKSS approach to support the long-term retention of scholarly publications. The network is intended to help preserve access to journal content under defined circumstances, including the permanent loss or discontinuation of the original publishing platform.
Participation in PKP PN is subject to the applicable technical requirements, availability of compatible software, successful configuration, acceptance of preservation terms, and confirmation that journal content has been deposited and preserved.
JOLLT may implement or maintain participation in an appropriate external preservation network subject to these requirements. Claims of active preservation through a particular service must be supported by evidence of successful participation and content preservation.
Further information about PKP PN is available through the official documentation:
Public Knowledge Project Preservation Network Documentation.
The editorial management and authorized system administrators are responsible for verifying the operational status of any external preservation arrangements claimed by the journal.
Where an external preservation service is used, verification should include the service's eligibility requirements, configuration status, content deposit records, processing status, and confirmation that the relevant content has been preserved.
A preservation plugin being installed or enabled does not, by itself, establish successful preservation. The journal's public statements concerning external archival participation must reflect the actual verified status of the service.
The preservation framework is intended to support the retention and integrity of the journal's published scholarly record, including the content and metadata required for scholarly identification, retrieval, and interpretation.
The principal categories of materials covered by this policy are described below.
| Material | Preservation Objective |
|---|---|
| Published Articles | Retain the scholarly content of published research and review articles. |
| Article Files | Preserve available published full-text files and related publication formats. |
| Volume and Issue Records | Maintain the organization and identification of the journal's publication history. |
| Bibliographic Metadata | Preserve article identification, authorship, publication dates, abstracts, and relevant citation information. |
| Supplementary Materials | Support the retention of supplementary files published with articles, where technically and legally appropriate. |
| Post-Publication Notices | Preserve corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, and other formal notices affecting the scholarly record. |
The coverage provided by any external preservation service depends on its technical specifications and the files and metadata successfully deposited into that service.
JOLLT recognizes the importance of maintaining an accurate and transparent publication history, including records of post-publication changes.
When a published article requires correction, an expression of concern, or retraction, the journal follows its publication ethics procedures. Relevant notices must be clearly identified and linked to the original publication record.
Corrections and retractions should not result in the silent deletion of scholarly records. Where permitted and appropriate, the original publication remains identifiable together with the relevant notice explaining its status.
Further information is available through the journal's Publication Ethics and Editorial Policies.
Digital preservation and operational data backup serve related but distinct purposes. Digital preservation addresses the long-term retention and accessibility of published scholarly content, while operational backups support recovery from data loss, accidental deletion, software failure, or damage to the journal's publishing infrastructure.
Universitas Pendidikan Mandalika, through the appropriate journal management and authorized technical personnel, is responsible for establishing and maintaining suitable backup and recovery arrangements for the JOLLT publishing platform.
The journal's operational backup arrangements should cover essential digital assets, including:
Backup arrangements should reduce dependence on a single storage location and incorporate appropriate access controls, data protection measures, and safeguards against unauthorized alteration or deletion.
Backup copies should be maintained in suitable storage environments, with separation from the primary publishing infrastructure where feasible.
Recovery procedures should enable authorized personnel to restore essential publishing services and publication records following technical failures or other disruptions.
Backup integrity and recovery procedures should be reviewed and tested periodically in accordance with the institution's technical resources and information management requirements.
The publisher and system administrators are responsible for documenting relevant procedures and addressing identified weaknesses in the backup and recovery arrangements.
JOLLT recognizes the importance of maintaining continued access to scholarly publications during changes in technology, journal administration, website infrastructure, or institutional publishing arrangements.
Where a change to the journal's hosting environment, website address, publishing platform, or management arrangement is necessary, reasonable measures should be taken to protect previously published scholarly content and associated metadata.
When the publishing platform is migrated or updated, the journal's technical management should seek to maintain the completeness and accessibility of published files, bibliographic metadata, article records, and issue archives.
Where website addresses or article locations change, appropriate redirection or metadata updates should be implemented when technically feasible to reduce disruption to readers and indexing services.
If the journal's regular publishing activities are discontinued, the publisher should make reasonable arrangements to retain and provide access to its previously published scholarly content, consistent with applicable preservation agreements, legal requirements, and available institutional resources.
Where an external preservation service has successfully preserved the journal's content, its applicable recovery or access provisions may provide an additional mechanism for maintaining the scholarly record under qualifying circumstances.
Authors retain copyright in their published works in accordance with the journal's copyright policy and may share or archive their articles subject to the applicable publication license and any third-party rights.
Author self-archiving through institutional repositories or other appropriate scholarly platforms may support discoverability and accessibility. However, such distribution is not a substitute for an independently verified long-term digital preservation arrangement.
Further information is available through the journal's Copyright and License Policy.
The long-term management and preservation of the journal's scholarly content require coordination between the publisher, editorial management, and authorized technical personnel.
Universitas Pendidikan Mandalika, as the journal's publisher, holds institutional responsibility for supporting appropriate arrangements for the continuity and preservation of JOLLT's published scholarly content.
These responsibilities include institutional oversight of relevant technical infrastructure, allocation of appropriate operational responsibilities, and support for necessary recovery or preservation arrangements.
The Editor in Chief and authorized editorial management personnel are responsible for maintaining the integrity of publication records, identifying relevant archival concerns, and coordinating with technical administrators when preservation-related issues affect published content.
Authorized OJS administrators are responsible for implementing and maintaining appropriate technical safeguards, including system maintenance, backup arrangements, controlled access, and verification of preservation configurations where applicable.
The journal's archiving and preservation arrangements should be reviewed periodically to ensure that the published policy remains consistent with the technical systems and institutional procedures actually in operation.
Any substantive changes to preservation services, publishing infrastructure, or archival arrangements should be reflected in the journal's published policy information.
This Digital Preservation Policy should be read in conjunction with JOLLT's other editorial and publishing policies.
