Abstract

The small-scale chemistry practicum approach is not yet widely recognized or implemented by chemistry teachers in Indonesia. This is largely due to the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application among teachers, who often lack the specialized skills necessary to create environmentally friendly small-scale chemistry practicums that align with educational objectives. This study aims to analyze the perceptions of pre-service chemistry teachers regarding the development of small-scale chemistry practicums and their impact on student motivation to engage with and apply these practices in schools. The research employs a qualitative approach using a survey method. According to the results of the questionnaire on pre-service chemistry teachers' perceptions toward the development of small-scale chemistry practicums, it can be concluded that the consensus among pre-service chemistry teachers falls within the "Agree" to "Strongly Agree" categories concerning the implementation of these practicums in schools. This indicates that pre-service chemistry teachers appreciate this approach and believe it has significant potential for application in classroom settings. The indicators with the highest averages were "Effectiveness and Efficiency of using small-scale chemistry practicums" and "Student Teaching Motivation," each scoring 4.35. This suggests that students recognize the practical benefits in terms of resource utilization and time management, and they are motivated to incorporate these methods into their chemistry learning experiences.
