Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Instructions for Authors

Lensa: Jurnal Kependidikan Fisika (J-LKF) welcomes original scholarship in physics education and physics , including theoretical, experimental, computational, applied, and carefully conducted review studies. Authors must ensure that their manuscripts are relevant to the journal's Focus and Scope , are original, and follow the requirements below.

1. Scope and Manuscript Eligibility

The research question, methodology, findings, and scientific or educational implications must demonstrate a direct and substantive contribution to physics or physics education. Interdisciplinary studies are eligible only when a physical concept, phenomenon, measurement, model, method, or physics-specific learning outcome is central to the work.

Only original manuscripts that have not been published previously and are not being considered simultaneously by another journal may be submitted. The journal may return manuscripts that fall outside its scope or do not meet basic scholarly and reporting standards before external review.

2. Types of Manuscripts

Original Research Article

Reports original empirical, experimental, theoretical, computational, applied physics, or physics education research. The study must present a clear problem, an appropriate and reproducible method, evidence-supported findings, and a contribution to the field.

Review Article

Provides a rigorous critical synthesis of existing physics or physics education research, such as a systematic review, scoping review, meta-analysis, or well-justified critical review. The review method, evidence base, and analytical contribution must be explicit.

Other article types

Commentary, perspectives, and short communications should be submitted only if the journal has formally opened a corresponding submission section and published the applicable criteria. The article type must be consistent with the section selected in OJS.

3. Language and Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts may be written in English or Indonesian. English is preferred to facilitate international readership. All manuscripts must use clear academic language and follow the currently published J-LKF template.

Place tables and figures close to their first citation. Use consistent heading levels, define abbreviations when first used, and ensure that all mathematical symbols, labels, and units are readable. Follow the journal template for margins and detailed visual formatting.

4. Title, Authors, Affiliations, and Metadata

  • Title: State the main topic and contribution accurately and concisely. Avoid unexplained abbreviations and promotional claims.
  • Author names: Provide the full names of all authors without academic degrees or honorifics.
  • Affiliations: Supply the department or research unit, institution, city, and country of each author. Mark the corresponding author and provide a reliable email address.
  • Identifiers: Add ORCID iDs where available and ensure that OJS metadata match the manuscript.
  • Authorship: All listed authors must have made a substantive scholarly contribution and approved the submitted version. Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately.
  • Anonymous review: If an anonymized file is requested by the journal, remove names, affiliations, acknowledgments, identifying document properties, and self-identifying information from that file. Complete author identities and affiliations accurately in the OJS metadata.

5. Abstract and Keywords

The abstract must be a self-contained, single paragraph of 150-250 words describing the research problem or objective, the approach or methods, the principal findings, and the principal conclusion or contribution. Include informative quantitative results when relevant. Avoid citations, unexplained abbreviations, and claims not supported by the manuscript.

English-language manuscript

Provide an abstract in English.

Indonesian-language manuscript

Provide both Indonesian and English abstracts, with 150-250 words for each abstract.

Provide three to five keywords or short keyword phrases in English, arranged alphabetically. Keywords should identify the concepts, methods, phenomena, or physics learning outcomes most useful for discovery and indexing.

6. Structure of the Manuscript

Original Research Article

  1. Title, author information, abstract, and keywords.
  2. Introduction: background, state of the art, research gap, originality or contribution, and objectives or research questions.
  3. Methods: research design, materials or participants, procedures, instruments or apparatus, measurements, analysis, and relevant ethical safeguards.
  4. Results and Discussion: relevant results, interpretation, relation to prior evidence and theory, and limitations.
  5. Conclusion: direct answers to the objectives, principal contribution, and implications.
  6. Recommendation (where relevant) and Acknowledgments (if applicable).
  7. Required declarations and References.

Review Article

  1. Title, author information, abstract, and keywords.
  2. Introduction: rationale, unresolved issues, and review objectives or questions.
  3. Review Methods: information sources, selection approach, inclusion criteria, appraisal, and synthesis procedures, as applicable.
  4. Results and Discussion: integrated evidence, comparison of studies, gaps, and implications for physics or physics education.
  5. Conclusion: central synthesis, limitations, and research directions.
  6. Required declarations and References.

Use descriptive subsections where necessary and retain the principal headings defined in the current journal template. For systematic reviews or meta-analyses, use an established reporting guideline, such as PRISMA, when appropriate to the review design.

7. Research Reporting Standards

Physics Education Research

  • Describe the educational context, participants, sampling, research design, intervention, and comparison conditions where applicable.
  • Explain instrument development or selection and report validity and reliability evidence appropriate to the inferences made.
  • Present transparent analytical procedures, relevant uncertainty or effect estimates, and ethical approval or consent information when applicable.

Physics and Applied Physics Research

  • Describe apparatus, materials, physical models, initial and boundary conditions, measurement protocols, and analytical or computational procedures.
  • Provide sufficient calibration, uncertainty, validation, or convergence information to support reproducibility where relevant.
  • Use recognized physical units, define symbols, and state assumptions and limitations explicitly.

Results should report findings rather than repeat raw data unnecessarily. Discussion must interpret mechanisms or educational explanations, compare findings with pertinent scholarship, and distinguish evidence-based conclusions from speculation.

8. Tables, Figures, Equations, and Supplementary Material

  • Number tables and figures consecutively in the order they are cited and give each a clear, informative caption.
  • Place table titles above tables and figure captions below figures unless the current journal template specifies otherwise.
  • Use high-quality, legible graphics; label axes with variables and units and define all symbols and abbreviations.
  • Do not duplicate the same data unnecessarily in a table and a figure. Explain the scientific meaning of each essential visual in the text.
  • Number equations when they are referred to in the text. Define all symbols and use consistent SI units where relevant.
  • Obtain permission for copyrighted material and credit reused or adapted content appropriately.
  • Provide supplementary files only when they genuinely support transparency or replication and clearly identify their relationship to the manuscript.

9. Citations and References

Use APA Style, 7th edition , with author-date in-text citations. Every cited source must appear in the reference list, and every reference-list entry must be cited in the manuscript. Verify author names, publication years, journal details, page ranges or article numbers, and DOI links.

Reference quality requirements

  • Include at least 15 relevant references that directly support the research background, methods, and interpretation.
  • At least 80% of the references must be primary scholarly journal articles relevant to the manuscript. For a review article, seminal books or methodological sources may also be used when necessary, without compromising the quality of the evidence base.
  • Prioritize current literature from the preceding ten years, while citing older seminal work when indispensable.
  • Provide verified DOI links in the format https://doi.org/... when available.
  • Do not include fabricated, irrelevant, duplicate, or unverified references. Avoid unnecessary citation concentration or citation manipulation.
  • Use a reference manager such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote and manually check the final output.

10. Research Integrity and Required Declarations

Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the manuscript, the authenticity of data, the proper attribution of sources, and the integrity of all figures and analyses. The journal does not accept plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data, duplicate submission, or inappropriate authorship.

  • Ethics and consent: Report ethics committee approval and consent or assent procedures when applicable. For work involving students or other human participants, describe privacy safeguards and explain when formal ethics review was not required under applicable rules.
  • Funding: State the source of financial support and grant identifiers, or state that no specific funding was received.
  • Conflicts of interest: Disclose financial, professional, or personal relationships that could reasonably influence the work, or state that there are no known conflicts.
  • Author contributions: Identify substantive author roles and confirm that all authors approved the final submission. The journal may request additional contributor information.
  • Data availability: Explain whether relevant data, code, instruments, or materials can be accessed and under what conditions, while respecting privacy and legal restrictions.
  • Use of generative AI: Disclose material use of generative AI in manuscript preparation or research methods where applicable. Authors remain responsible for verification, originality, confidentiality, and the accuracy of all citations. AI systems cannot be listed as authors.
  • Acknowledgments: Recognize non-author contributions and institutional or logistical support where appropriate.

Declare items that are not applicable as such when appropriate. Further procedures may be specified by the journal's separately published ethics, authorship, plagiarism, and AI policies.

11. Online Submission and Editorial Screening

  1. Register or log in at the J-LKF OJS portal and select the appropriate submission section.
  2. Upload the manuscript in an editable format and provide supplementary material only when needed.
  3. Complete the article title, abstract, keywords, author affiliations, corresponding author contact information, and additional metadata accurately.
  4. Confirm that the manuscript is original, within scope, and consistent with the current journal template and relevant ethics requirements.
  5. Respond to editorial or reviewer requests with a revised manuscript and a clear response explaining how comments have been addressed.

Submissions are subject to an initial editorial assessment and, when suitable, external peer review. Decisions depend on the quality, originality, relevance, reporting, and integrity of the submitted work. Meeting formatting requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

Article publication charges

Applicable fees and payment terms are governed by the journal's current Author Fees statement. Authors should consult that page before submission and should not infer a fee from outdated templates or instructions.

12. Final Pre-Submission Check

Before submission, confirm the following:

  • Research is clearly relevant to physics or physics education and represents original scholarship.
  • The manuscript follows the journal template and the formatting table above.
  • Title, author metadata, abstract, and three to five English keywords are complete and consistent.
  • Methods and analysis are sufficiently detailed for critical appraisal and, where feasible, replication.
  • Tables, figures, equations, and supplementary material are accurate and correctly cited.
  • References follow APA 7, are relevant, and include verified DOI information when available.
  • Required ethics, funding, conflict-of-interest, data availability, and AI-use statements are supplied as applicable.
  • All authors have approved the submission and confirmed that it is not under consideration elsewhere.

The editorial office may request clarification or supporting documentation when necessary. Authors should consult the latest journal template and policies before submitting.
