Author Guidelines

A. General Requirements

Authors submitting manuscripts to Media Pendidikan Matematika must comply with the following requirements:

  1. The manuscript must be an original scholarly work that has not been previously published and is not under consideration by another journal or publication.

  2. The manuscript must be relevant to the focus and scope of Media Pendidikan Matematika, particularly mathematics education and related fields.

  3. Manuscripts may be written in Indonesian or English using clear, systematic, and appropriate academic language.

  4. Manuscripts must be prepared using the official Media Pendidikan Matematika manuscript template without modifying its main formatting requirements.

  5. Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the journal’s Open Journal Systems platform.

  6. All listed authors must have made a substantial contribution to the research and preparation of the manuscript.

  7. Authors are responsible for the originality, accuracy of data, language quality, use of sources, and overall content of the manuscript.

  8. Each manuscript will undergo initial editorial screening, similarity checking, and peer review before a publication decision is made.

  9. The final decision regarding acceptance or rejection is made by the Editor-in-Chief or editorial board based on the reviewers’ recommendations and the quality of the authors’ revisions.

B. Focus and Scope

Submitted manuscripts should address mathematics education at primary, secondary, or higher education levels.

Relevant topics include:

  1. mathematics teaching strategies, approaches, methods, and learning models;

  2. mathematics curriculum development;

  3. instructional materials, modules, media, and learning resources;

  4. digital technology in mathematics education;

  5. assessment and evaluation;

  6. numeracy and mathematical literacy;

  7. mathematical problem-solving;

  8. mathematical reasoning and communication;

  9. critical, creative, and higher-order thinking skills;

  10. realistic mathematics education;

  11. ethnomathematics;

  12. STEM and STEAM education;

  13. inclusive mathematics education;

  14. mathematics teacher professional development;

  15. mathematical anxiety, motivation, attitudes, and dispositions;

  16. artificial intelligence in mathematics education;

  17. classroom action research;

  18. problem-based and project-based learning;

  19. mathematics education policy; and

  20. other relevant issues supporting the theoretical and practical development of mathematics education.

C. Types of Manuscripts

The journal accepts:

  1. original research articles;

  2. conceptual papers;

  3. literature review articles;

  4. research and development articles;

  5. classroom action research; and

  6. other scholarly articles relevant to the journal’s focus and scope.

Each manuscript must demonstrate a clear contribution to mathematics education theory or practice.

D. Manuscript Format

Manuscripts must be prepared using the official journal template.

Authors must ensure that:

  1. manuscripts are submitted in Microsoft Word format;

  2. fonts, font sizes, line spacing, margins, headings, tables, figures, and references comply with the template;

  3. the main page layout is not altered;

  4. the manuscript length complies with the template requirements;

  5. unnecessary headers, footers, or publication information are not added;

  6. formatting is consistent throughout the manuscript; and

  7. the submitted file can be opened and processed properly.

E. Manuscript Structure

Research manuscripts should generally contain the following sections:

1. Title

The title should be concise, informative, specific, and accurately reflect the main content of the study. Uncommon abbreviations should be avoided.

2. Author Information

The full names of all authors must be provided without academic titles.

Author information should include:

  1. full name;

  2. institutional affiliation;

  3. institutional address where required;

  4. active email address; and

  5. ORCID, when available.

One author must be designated as the corresponding author.

3. Abstract

The abstract should briefly present:

  1. the background or purpose of the study;

  2. the research method;

  3. the main findings; and

  4. the conclusion.

It must be written as a single paragraph and comply with the word limit specified in the journal template.

Indonesian manuscripts should preferably include abstracts in both Indonesian and English. English manuscripts should preferably include abstracts in both English and Indonesian.

The abstract should not include citations, tables, figures, complex equations, or unexplained abbreviations.

4. Keywords

Keywords should represent the main concepts of the study and assist with article indexing. They must comply with the journal template.

5. Introduction

The introduction should present:

  1. the research background;

  2. the empirical or theoretical problem;

  3. relevant previous studies;

  4. the research gap;

  5. the novelty or contribution;

  6. the significance of the study; and

  7. the research objectives or questions.

6. Method

The method section should describe:

  1. the research approach and design;

  2. the research setting;

  3. the population, sample, subjects, or participants;

  4. the sampling technique;

  5. the research variables or focus;

  6. the research instruments;

  7. data collection procedures;

  8. instrument validity and reliability where applicable;

  9. research procedures; and

  10. data analysis techniques.

Studies involving human participants must comply with relevant research ethics principles.

7. Results

The results should be presented clearly, objectively, and systematically according to the research objectives.

Data may be presented using narratives, tables, graphs, diagrams, figures, or other appropriate visual forms.

8. Discussion

The discussion should:

  1. interpret the findings;

  2. relate the findings to relevant theories;

  3. compare the findings with previous studies;

  4. explain similarities or differences;

  5. demonstrate the study’s novelty and contribution;

  6. discuss theoretical and practical implications;

  7. explain factors influencing the findings; and

  8. acknowledge the study’s limitations.

The discussion should not merely repeat the results.

9. Conclusion

The conclusion should:

  1. answer the research objectives or questions;

  2. be based on the findings;

  3. be concise and clear;

  4. avoid presenting new data;

  5. avoid merely repeating the results; and

  6. highlight the study’s main contribution.

Recommendations or implications may be included where relevant.

10. Acknowledgments

Authors may acknowledge individuals, institutions, or organizations that provided academic, technical, administrative, or financial support.

11. Author Contributions

When requested, authors should state the contribution of each author to conceptualization, methodology, data collection, analysis, drafting, revision, and supervision.

12. Conflict of Interest Statement

Authors must disclose any potential conflict of interest that may have influenced the research, analysis, interpretation, or publication of the manuscript.

13. References

The reference list must include only sources cited in the manuscript, and all sources cited in the manuscript must appear in the reference list.

In-text citations and references must follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Seventh Edition, or APA Style 7th Edition.

Authors are encouraged to use recent primary scholarly sources, particularly peer-reviewed journal articles, and reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote.

F. Citation and Reference Style

All citations and references must follow APA Style 7th Edition.

Authors must ensure the accuracy of:

  1. author names;

  2. publication years;

  3. source titles;

  4. journal or publisher names;

  5. volumes and issues;

  6. page ranges;

  7. DOI information; and

  8. URLs.

DOIs should be presented as active links whenever available.

G. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures must:

  1. be numbered consecutively;

  2. be cited in the text;

  3. have appropriate titles or captions;

  4. comply with the journal template;

  5. be clear and readable;

  6. avoid unnecessary duplication of data;

  7. explain all abbreviations and symbols;

  8. acknowledge reproduced or adapted sources; and

  9. comply with copyright and research ethics requirements.

Tables must be created using the table function and should not be submitted as images.

H. Mathematical Equations and Symbols

Mathematical equations must be prepared using an equation editor.

Symbols must be used consistently and defined when first introduced. Equations referred to in the text must be numbered consecutively.

I. Language

Manuscripts may be written in Indonesian or English.

Indonesian manuscripts must follow current Indonesian academic language and spelling conventions. English manuscripts must use clear and accurate academic English.

The editorial team may request language revision when necessary.

J. Similarity Screening and Plagiarism

Before submission, authors must conduct a similarity check using reliable plagiarism-detection software, such as Turnitin or a comparable application.

The maximum acceptable overall similarity index is 25%.

Authors must ensure that the similarity result:

  1. does not indicate excessive copying;

  2. is not dominated by a single source;

  3. does not contain unacknowledged text recycling;

  4. does not indicate duplicate publication; and

  5. has been appropriately reviewed before submission.

The editorial team may request a similarity report and reserves the right to conduct an additional similarity screening.

Manuscripts exceeding the 25% similarity threshold may be returned for revision, rejected during initial screening, or reconsidered after appropriate correction.

The similarity percentage is not the sole indicator of plagiarism. Editors will also assess similarity patterns, citation accuracy, source use, duplicate publication, and possible plagiarism of ideas or data.

K. Publication Ethics

Authors must comply with scholarly publication ethics.

Manuscripts must not contain:

  1. plagiarism;

  2. data fabrication;

  3. data falsification;

  4. data or image manipulation;

  5. citation manipulation;

  6. duplicate publication;

  7. simultaneous submission;

  8. inappropriate authorship; or

  9. other forms of academic misconduct.

All authors must approve the submission, make substantial contributions, disclose funding and conflicts of interest, and provide ethical approval where applicable.

L. Peer Review Process

Every manuscript that passes initial editorial screening will undergo a double-blind peer review process.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

The editor will evaluate:

  1. conformity with the journal’s focus and scope;

  2. compliance with the template;

  3. completeness of the manuscript structure;

  4. initial language quality;

  5. the similarity index;

  6. completeness of author information;

  7. citation and reference accuracy; and

  8. initial scholarly quality.

Manuscripts that fail to meet basic requirements may be returned or rejected without external review.

2. Review Round 1

During Review Round 1, the manuscript will be evaluated by two reviewers whose expertise is relevant to the article.

The reviewers will assess:

  1. relevance to the journal’s scope;

  2. originality and novelty;

  3. significance of the topic;

  4. clarity of the research problem and objectives;

  5. appropriateness of the theoretical framework;

  6. quality and currency of references;

  7. methodological rigor;

  8. quality of instruments and data analysis;

  9. clarity of the findings;

  10. depth of discussion;

  11. consistency of the conclusion;

  12. theoretical and practical contributions;

  13. language and presentation quality; and

  14. compliance with publication ethics.

The reviewers may recommend:

  1. acceptance without revision;

  2. minor revision;

  3. major revision and reconsideration; or

  4. rejection.

When the two reviewers provide substantially different recommendations, the editor may make an editorial assessment, request clarification, appoint an additional reviewer, or request revision.

3. Response to Reviewers

Authors must respond to all reviewer comments clearly, systematically, respectfully, and academically.

The revised manuscript must be accompanied by a response-to-reviewers document containing:

  1. each reviewer comment;

  2. the authors’ response;

  3. the revisions made;

  4. the page number or location of each revision; and

  5. academic justification when a recommendation cannot be followed.

4. Evaluation of Revisions

After receiving the revised manuscript, the editor will assess:

  1. the completeness of the authors’ responses;

  2. compliance with reviewer recommendations;

  3. the scholarly quality of the revisions;

  4. consistency of changes; and

  5. readiness for further processing.

When all comments have been adequately addressed, the manuscript may proceed to an editorial decision, copyediting, or production.

5. Review Round 2

When further evaluation is required, the revised manuscript may proceed to Review Round 2.

Review Round 2 is conducted depending on:

  1. the extent and complexity of the requested revisions;

  2. the quality of the authors’ revisions;

  3. the degree to which reviewer comments have been addressed;

  4. unresolved methodological issues;

  5. unresolved substantive issues;

  6. reviewer recommendations; and

  7. editorial judgment.

During Review Round 2, the revised manuscript may be returned to the same reviewers. The reviewers will determine whether the authors have adequately addressed the comments and improved the manuscript.

Additional comments may be provided when further revision is required.

6. Final Decision

The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief or editorial board after considering:

  1. the results of Review Round 1;

  2. the results of Review Round 2, when applicable;

  3. the recommendations of both reviewers;

  4. the quality of the authors’ revisions;

  5. compliance with journal policies;

  6. academic integrity; and

  7. the publication standards of Media Pendidikan Matematika.

M. Revision Process

Authors must submit revised manuscripts within the deadline specified by the editor.

A revised submission should include:

  1. the revised manuscript;

  2. a response-to-reviewers document;

  3. clearly marked revisions;

  4. updated references where required; and

  5. all supporting documents requested by the editor.

Failure to submit revisions within the specified period without notification may result in discontinuation of the editorial process or treatment of the manuscript as a new submission.

N. Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts must be submitted through the Media Pendidikan Matematika Open Journal Systems platform.

Authors must complete all submission stages, upload the manuscript, provide complete metadata, add all authors, enter the title and abstract, provide keywords, and upload supporting documents when required.

The metadata entered into the system must be consistent with the manuscript.

O. Submission Checklist

Before submission, authors must ensure that:

  1. the manuscript is relevant to the journal’s focus and scope;

  2. the manuscript is original;

  3. the manuscript has not been published;

  4. the manuscript is not under review elsewhere;

  5. all authors have approved the submission;

  6. the official journal template has been used;

  7. the manuscript structure is complete;

  8. the language has been checked;

  9. citations and references follow APA Style 7th Edition;

  10. all citations appear in the reference list;

  11. all references are cited in the text;

  12. DOI information is included where available;

  13. tables and figures are properly numbered and cited;

  14. equations are prepared using an equation editor;

  15. the similarity index does not exceed 25%;

  16. the data are accurately presented;

  17. conflicts of interest have been disclosed;

  18. funding information has been provided where applicable;

  19. ethical approval has been included where required; and

  20. all submitted files can be opened properly.

P. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain the moral rights to their published work.

Copyright, publishing licenses, open-access provisions, distribution, reuse, and article archiving are governed by the official policies of Media Pendidikan Matematika.

By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that:

  1. all authors have read and approved the manuscript;

  2. the manuscript is original;

  3. the manuscript does not violate third-party copyright;

  4. the authors agree to the editorial and peer review process;

  5. the authors are willing to revise the manuscript when required; and

  6. the authors have read and agreed to all journal policies.
