This community service program aims to raise public awareness and enhance residents’ capacity to manage organic waste through the establishment of the An-Nur Kartasura Mosque Compost Bank as a form of participatory community empowerment. The program was implemented over three months through several stages: community outreach, technical composting training, management assistance, and program evaluation. Evaluation instruments included field observation sheets and interview guidelines, and the collected data were analyzed descriptively. The results demonstrated a substantial increase in community participation. The proportion of households actively sorting waste increased from 15% (12 households) to 46.2% (37 households), while the volume of collected organic waste rose from 15 kg to 60 kg per week. The program also produced 90 kg of mature compost per month. In addition, attendance at educational and training activities increased by 84%, from 25 to 46 participants. The mosque environment became cleaner and more comfortable, accompanied by growing awareness among residents of the importance of sorting waste at home. Socially, the program strengthened environmental awareness, while economically, residents benefited from using the compost for mosque gardens and productive home gardens. These findings highlight the strategic role of mosques not only as places of worship but also as agents of social and environmental change through participatory waste management.
